Wine Creation Process
My wife and I have enjoyed wine for many years. We have attended many wine tastings and numberous winery tours. The process of creating wine has always intrigued me and I thought it would be fun to create this site to describe the wine making process, in general terms, from the beginning of preparing vines in the winter months for this year's grapes through the aging process at the end of the year. This is what I have termed "The Seasons of Wine".
Wine making begins with the purchase of the right piece of land. The process of growing wine grapes is agriculture and that takes dirt and dedication. Just as you are never farther away from agriculture than your next meal, the winemaker's next wine is only as good as the grapes the vine produced from the soil, water and air (agriculture).
Commercial wine production is a very capital intensive business. The grower must obtain financing to sustain the vineyard operations through the incomeless first three years after planting, when no commercial crop is produced by the new vines.
There is a common saying in the wine business that "to make a small fortune, you need to start with a large one". Some of the images that you will encounter on this site were either photos we have taken over the years or non-copyrighted/non-watermarked images from the web. The paintings that you will encounter were created by my wife, Judy. Just click on the links to the left to find out more about the seasons of wine.Back To Top
